An open letter about how Cheres came to be

A couple of months ago, I realized the world of investing or finance was broken yet untapped opportunities were on the horizon. Yes, even long before r/WSB…Most of us didn't trust institutional investors or our banks, when trying to become more financially fit.

As I interviewed hundreds of Gen Z'ers & Millennials around the world, the word ‘trust’ kept coming up. Repeatedly people said “my most trusted sources are my friends”. While it's powerful to see Warren Buffet's portfolio and be able to copy his trades, or equally get TikTok ‘what stocks to invest’ advice, it wasn't really helping any of us actually become better investors.

Instead, it's so much better when you can have intimate groups with your best friends, your work colleagues, even your family, to see what they're investing in, so you can more honestly ask ‘why are you investing in X stock?’.

We don't have time to be reading up about different industries, limiting our portfolio success. However, chances are you have a friend studying to become a doctor, a beauty/fashion blogger, an investment banker, one working at a tech startup, consulting, or mastering in a specific field. Tapping into our diverse friend groups can all help us become better investors.

Finance should be social. It should be powered by the collective of our different friend groups, and in many ways, what we refer to as ‘micro-communities’.
