There was Bitcoin, Ethereum, and then…USDC.

As crypto evolves, so does the love we have for certain currencies. The one highlighted and gaining much momentum and trust is a tale of irony. DeFi this, web3 that. But what if the future of crypto is tied to the hip with TradFi originale ‘Benny Franklin’ 💵?

Stablecoins were the last crypto cycle's biggest success story - growing from less than $1B in circulation in 2017 to a whopping $180B most recently. 💥 But when it comes to the most popular, stable of stablecoins, you bet we're talking about the intern-fave, USDC. 💚

While it sounds trivial that a digital currency pegged to the U.S. dollar is more trusted, it's in fact its' conservatism that makes it so appealing compared to others. Stablecoins such as MakerDAO or FEI are mostly backed by crypto assets. 🤔 Algorithmically-backed stablecoins such as Luna and Frax are backed by their own stablecoins. Sooo not exactly “risk free”.

The company behind USDC, Circle, is focused on increasing new TAMs and coin circulation by partnering with TradFi (traditional finance) players like Visa, Blackrock, and Stripe. Ugh, gotta love a TradFi x DeFi marriage 💍

📝 What does this mean for my investing? If you're trying to diversify your crypto investments and not sure what's got future potential, now ya know. USDC ain't as sexy as NFT-powering Ethereum, but it's not only gained much market cap but trust in the crypto community. The underlying truth is that it's kinda like a web2.5 asset…it's crypto but highly dependent on good ol' TradFi ‘Benny Franklin’ 💵.

Farfetch (NYSE: $FTCH) takes a page from YC with new web3 accelerator

Ok so the online luxury marketplace ain't too farfetched with its accelerator because they've had one before. The difference is, after a 2-year hiatus, Farfetch has partnered up with Outlier Ventures to add a new flavor - web tres 🌶The 12-week program, now called Dream Assembly Base Camp, will focus on digital fashion, tokenized loyalty, immersive experiences and the creator economy. Chosen startups will get $150K in grant funding and mentorship support.

📝 What does this mean for my investing? Farfetch is a publicly-traded stock as part of NYSE AND so its slight focus on web3 presents an opportunity for the company. You'd think the stock would be up but, it's actually down 7.2%. Kinda awks but their stock was also repriced from $30 to $11 on Monday…So welp. Do what you gotta do with the info friends.
